Frequently asked questions
What is GS1-128 and when do I need it?
GS1-128 is the barcode used on shipping cases and logistics units. It carries the GTIN plus data like batch number and expiry date in one code, and is required by many large retailers and distributors.
How do I build a GS1-128 with batch and expiry date?
In the label editor you simply pick the fields — GTIN (01), expiry date (17), batch (10) — and EAN Studio assembles the barcode for you, with no manual encoding. Available on the Pro plan.
Can I import my product catalog from Excel?
Yes — import from Excel or CSV and the data from each row fills your labels automatically. The template you download already carries seventeen columns with the headers in your language; only a name and a code are required, and any extra column you add becomes a field you can place on the label.
Does it work with my printer?
Yes — any regular printer, with no special hardware. You can adjust the paper and label size in the editor; as long as it matches what you load in the printer, it prints correctly.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There are monthly and annual plans; you can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you paid for. No lock-in.
Can I pay without a subscription?
Yes. Turn off automatic renewal and you buy a pack that lasts 1 month or 12 months and then simply ends — no renewal and nothing to cancel. If you buy another before the first one runs out, the new time is added to what you already have. One-off purchases also accept Alipay, WeChat Pay and Cash App Pay, where available.
Why is EAN Studio cheaper than traditional label software?
Traditional label software is sold as desktop licences with a high upfront cost. EAN Studio is a web service: nothing to install, updates included, and you pay only while you need it. Plans start at €7/month, and annual billing brings Starter to €5/month and Pro to about €21/month.
Does the price include a GS1 number?
No. Our plans pay for the tool — generating barcodes, designing labels and printing them. The number itself comes from GS1, is applied for directly with the GS1 organisation in your country, and is billed separately: roughly a one-off $30 for a single number in the US, or an annual licence from about £50 in the UK for ten numbers. If you already have your numbers, none of this affects you.
Do I get an invoice for my company?
Yes. Every payment automatically generates a VAT invoice. At checkout you can enter your company’s VAT ID, which then appears on the invoice. EU companies with a valid VAT ID benefit from reverse charge. You can download your invoices at any time from the customer portal.
