Frequently asked questions

What exactly does the verifier check?

Three things that cause most scanning failures: the check digit, the dimensions against the GS1 specification, and the quiet zones around the bars.

Why won't my barcode scan at the checkout?

The most common causes are printing too small, text or graphics invading the quiet zones, low contrast, or a wrong check digit. Upload a photo and the verifier will tell you which one it is.

What are quiet zones?

The blank margins required before and after the bars. Text, borders or graphics placed inside them prevent scanners from reading the code.

Are the images I upload stored anywhere?

No. Verification runs entirely in your browser — your image is never sent to our servers. Your account only stores your product catalog and label layouts.

Does this replace an ISO barcode verifier device?

No — ISO verifiers measure optical parameters that a photo cannot capture. But it catches the most common real-world problems before you print thousands of labels.

The check digit is wrong — what now?

Generate a corrected barcode with the free barcode generator, or fix the product number in the label editor.

Which image formats can I upload?

Any common image format your browser can read — PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF — from a file, photo or screenshot.
